Welcome to 2019-20

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! My name is Coach Wil Edmondson and I am the Physical Education teacher for Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade here, at Archway Lincoln. Here is a little bio about myself:

I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. After attending public primary and secondary schooling, I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Shortly afterward, I married my middle school sweetheart and we moved across the country to Chandler, AZ. She is pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts in Theater. Meanwhile, I am entering my third year at Archway Lincoln. Prior to teaching PE, I was a teaching assistant in fourth grade and second grade. In addition to teaching at Archway Lincoln, I continue to coach extracurricular volleyball, soccer, and tennis for Lincoln Preparatory. I am an Accredited Interscholastic Coach through the NFHS as well as CPR and First Aid certified. A few of my hobbies are soccer, board games, hiking, and playing with my golden doodle puppy.

I am incredibly excited looking forward to this next school year. In PE class, scholar-athletes will participate in activities and routines aimed at improving their fitness and coordination. They will also be introduced to vocabulary related to basic human anatomy, and explore what it is to participate in healthy competitive play.

In partnership,
Coach Wil Edmondson

Castle Dodgeball

We are into the final full week of the 2018-2019 school year. To celebrate another school year done, we will be exploring the high energy game of Castle Dodgeball. This variation of the crowd favorite involves upright mats acting as walls to offer protection. To my 2nd graders, I will miss you as you move into 3rd-5th PE! I hope everyone had a wonderful year of games and activities. I'll see you next year!

Thank you to everyone for your well wishes. For those who didn't know, I was sick with the flu for most of the past week. Thankfully, I am recovered and ready to get back to play! This week, we are exploring a classic backyard ball game called Bocce Ball. In addition, each class will dedicate time to stretching their arms and playing cardio games like tag.

Kickball

This week, we are continuing our emphasis on our arm muscles (biceps, triceps, and deltoids) but we are warming up with leg exercises as well. Our fitness will include squat jumps, planks, pushups, lunges, and jumping jacks. We are also so goodbye to four square. Many scholars enjoyed the short week of it and are encouraged to play pop-up games on the recess playground. This week, we begin two weeks of kickball. We'll start with running and pitching instruction followed by rules and positions. We will end each day with kickball related games. Our second week will consist of longer 20+ minute kickball games outside. Please make sure your scholars bring a jacket since it is a bit chilly.

Happy New Year & Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing winter break. I spent my time back home in Nashville, TN with family and friends.

For the beginning of our 3rd quarter, I will be introducing a new muscle group (upper and lower arms). We will also be reviewing a few fitness exercises we learned before the break (diamond planks, squats, and burpees). For our next sports unit, I am very excited to introduce bowling to your scholars. We will be exploring proper bowling form and vocabulary while practicing with exciting games. This unit will culminate next week in a fun team bowling competition in each class. I'm really looking forward to seeing the pins fall.

Here's to a wonderful week!
